ASUU Blames University of Ibadan Management Over Payment of Promotion Arrears

The Academic Staff Union of University ASUU has accused the management of University of Ibadan UI, Oyo State of planning to pay academic staff only one year promotion arrears even when promotion announcement of academic staff was delayed by the management and announced almost five or four years after the person was due for promotion.
According to Vanguard News, the statement was signed by its chairman, Dr. Deji Omole and Secretary, Dr. Peter Olapegba, respectively. ASUU said the move would be resisted with all its mind.
Source said the later that had been forwarded to the Vice Chancellor, said the proposal is antithetical to the welfare of member of the union.
The union leaders said, the lateness in announcing promotion was not the fault of the candidates but that of the administration.
Source said, while insisting that all those owed the promotion arrears must be paid in full, they warned that the proposal would not guarantee industrial peace when welfare of their member is threatened.
The Vice Chancellor and his Team was advised to think of ways to refine the promotion procedure so that people are promoted as at when due.

It therefore asked the University Administration to continue to pay promotion arrears of the academic staff in full as at when due.
