Militants Ambushed Security Operatives in Lagos




Sources has it that gunmen suspected to be militants, yesterday attacked securities operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, (FSAR), Lagos State Police Command, in Igando Area of Lagos, killing one of them.
According to Vanguard News, the operatives had gone to confront the Militants, who were alleged to be attacking residents of Igando area, who they accused of divulging information that led to the arrest of some of their members to the police.
Source said that Lagos State Police Command had arrested about seven suspected members of the militants, who have their camps around Ijegemo creeks in Igando area.
According to Vanguard News, among the suspects was a pastor, whose church was allegedly used as heaven for kidnappers and a mother of seven, who confessed to own a camp close to the creeks, from where she informed the militants of intruder’s presence.
Also, Vanguard News said that, in response to yesterday’s distress call, about 20 policemen from FSARS were drafted to Igando area.
They ran into an ambush in arriving the area, in which one of the operatives, whose name is Solomon Esemuze, a sergeant, was reportedly shot in the head.
Report has it that the policeman who was shot in the head, shot two militants before he fell.
Source gathered that his fellow policemen retreated and rushed him to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, where he was confirmed dead.
